The guides break off very easily and are always out of stock! So I mentioned my problem to the place I bought the set from and they spoke to someone at the company and I got a replacement car....still no replacements guides. Buy some on ebay, that's your best bet....Now, I am going to buy a digital set, because my daughter likes playing, too. A digital set runs more than two cars on the track. I have not used one yet, but the track is the same and can be used on either digital or analog. The controllers are different and most newer cars cn be retrofitted with a $16 chip to run digital. If it works out well I will post something here. We are still loving the track, and when my son has a play date, they go straight to the basement and play with the track....time to get more track!......WARNING: This is addictive! :-)
Update 12/25/2009:
Okay, I'm still very happy and I have to say that if you practice you can make the cars drift. It's very cool. I do want to mention that these are not really all whell drive cars. There is a "belt" that connect the front and back tires, like on a pulley. This is really front wheel drive with the belt. I mention this because the belt slips easily. Also, it's very easy to drive the cars off the track (but then that's part of the skill). I HIGHLY recommend putting something around the turns as I have already broken off one of the side mirrors and a spoiler (the spoiler goes back on). These cars are nothing like the magnatraction and perhaps were not meant to be, as they require a lot more skill to drive. So, the other problem is that I still don't have enough track and while buying individually seems like the smart thing, I am now looking at another (bigger) set. Even with a 12 foot straight, the cars still feel like they can go. They do great around a chicayne! I would go for a set with better cars if I had it to do over again, unless you are pretty experienced or have the room for a third set. LOL! Still loving it.
I have been searching for years for a slot set and everyone that I bought from local toy stores have been junk. I gave up and my son was more disappointed than I. Well, visiting my brother he was given two old Scalextric tracks that did not work together so he gave me the older one. My son and I were thrilled. It's a great track....so, I went to online and found a dealer and bought this Rally Pro Championship set. The cars are 4wd and are better around the turns. First, let me tell you that if you have an older track, Scalextric sells a "conversion kit" that allows you to combine both tracks. It is just two tracks with adapters, but it works well. So, as for the track, first, this is a high quality track and the controllers work well. What is nice is you can buy seperate parts, e.g. gears, pinions, etc., for when they wear out so you don't have to spend them money on new cars. You will NOT be able to go full throttle around the entire track. It does take some skill on when to put the throttle down and when to ease up, but that is part of the fun. I now have over 50 feet of track, including this set and am looking to get more! One word of warning, this is ADDICTIVE! LOL. It is very easy to put together (and take apart), and you can go to the hornby website and download a track designer. The plastics are high quality and the cars are very cool, especially the lights. Initially, you may smell something burning, but it is normal and goes away after about 5-10 minutes of use. There are so many different accessories that it pays to do a little research. For the price, the sets are a great deal, and this one especially so as these 4wd cars add a different driving experience. The magnatraction works ok, but don't expect miracles, the laws of physics still apply and too much speed around a turn will send the car flying off the track. These sets cost a little more than what you find at toy stores, but they are so much better that these are by far the better deal. My 6 year old loves it. Oh, one more thing, if you bank the turns you can go faster around them (thanks to my son for recommending it). You do need a good bit of space for one track, and even more with multiple sets, but it's worth it! If you are considering a slot car set, this is the best set I have ever tried. Go for it and have fun!
