(More customer reviews)I currently own three of these lightsabers by Master Replicas: The Anakin Skywalker (Blue) blade, the Darth Vader (Red) blade, and the Mace Windu (Purple) blade. For more information on the Anakin model or the Vader model, please check my comparisons of those products in the Darth Vader FX Lightsaber reviews. I loved these replicas so much that one just couldn't be enough.....but because they cost an average of $70.00 to $120.00 each, I had to budget myself and purchase them individually over a three month span. First the good points:
The first thing I noticed is that the saber does have the proper weight to make it feel like the real thing and is well-detailed with silver and gold highlights. I loved the fact that it doesn't have a huge, bulbous on/off switch right in the middle of the hilt as you do with the others. The switch would actually be difficult to find if I didn't have the yellow decal pasted on it saying ON/OFF. You must continue to be careful with it, however, because you can still accidentally turn it off while using it (Very annoying).
Now the bad:
The bad things are that the Mace Windu model requires 6 AA batteries (The others only take 3). The saber ignites with a cool snap-hiss but ALL the sound effects are IDENTICAL to the blue Anakin model (At least the Vader model has different sound effects than the others). I also noticed that the blue Anakin sabers' sounds are much crisper/clearer than on the Mace Windu purple blade. That brings me to another good point: The purple blade itself is not as distinctive as the others. Even in low light it looks more white than purple. You have to hold the blue blade right next to the purple blade to really see a noticable difference. Could each of them vary? It's possible.....but my own saber's purple color is a little disappointing: Bright? YES. Purple? SORTA. All in all, if I had known all this before I made the purchase I'm not sure if I would have bought it (Maybe the green Luke Skywalker model instead). Maybe this is why the Mace Windu model is cheaper than all the rest? Who knows. I give this one 4 out of 5 stars.
